"The novel is narrated by Johnny Truant, a bar-hopping low-life who is losing his grip on reality. When an old man - Zampano - dies, Truant grabs a manuscript from his apartment and takes it home to read it. This manuscript is an analysis of The Navidson Record, a collection of videotapes that record some spooky goings on in a suburban house. As Truant reads the manuscript, he reproduces it in full, sharing his observations with us and describing his own increasingly fragile mental state."

Im currently reading "house of leaves" a horror novel with about 700 pages. (!!!)
I bought it some days ago, and i cant stop reading it!! OMG!!
its so so so .. kind of fantastic but spooky too!!
sometimes (i know it sounds weird but .. :D) im afraid to fall asleep because i have this feeling that something will come out of this book lol and grab meeeeee

ARGGHHH :D

PS: the only reason why im afraid of this book is that im not sure if its based on a real happening or not .. (there are so many real-sounding details in this book ....its kind of .. fascinating.. pictures, notes .. uh.. )

I couldn't put this book down.
I finished it in less than two weeks flat.
I found myself suddenly writing on walls when I got bored and would sometimes write upside down or reversed.
I would (as John Dies at the End's author David Wong would say) "loose time" while reading this book. As in, I'd start reading around 1, and then in no time it would be almost 7 or 8 and my dad would be screaming at me asking me why I was ignoring him. That book was like a trance.
I found myself trying to decode every other book I read after I finished it.
I became jumpy and found I could no longer enter my basement alone.
I would write down exactly how my room looked before falling asleep and check as soon as I woke up that nothing was different.
I began researching the book to see if the 'fiction' of the book was more non.
I messured my room once a week and at one point stabbed all my walls to make sure they were real and there was not another hallway or room behind them.
I blocked up my windows and haven't removed it since.
Every night I sit on my bed and stare into the blackness of room for at least half an hour before laying down and staring at my ceiling for another half hour.
Whether this was do to the book being a generic mindfuck, the similaries I found between myself and Johnny Truant, or me being paranoid because of god knows whatelse, I'm not sure.
All I know is that this book is like drug and I flushed the antidote down the toilet from page one.

"...imagine how fast it will happen, how hard it's gonna hit you, how many times it will stab your jugular with its teeth..."-pg. 27 Try looking up Mark's mp3 "enter the beast" bc he reads that section and its pretty freaky. it made me jump.

I know people who can't sleep with this book in their room after reading it.

You have to be a smart reader to get through it but once you do wow

Personally, about halfway through the book I couldn't go to sleep because I have three doors and a small hallway in my room, so I kept reading until 5am. Closure helps a person sleep.

Anyways, photo is great!
The hand is the book is very symbolic of the book's influence on Johnny, imho.

I know this is old, but I found it after a search for "House of Leaves."

Now that you've (I'm sure) finished the book, how do you like it? It's personally my favorite.

Oh, and I really like the photo!
